Dr. Ryan will tell us how vehicle electrification can advance our clean energy future and howe to realize the promised benefits of reduced emissions and greater energy efficiency. An economist with more than two decades of experience, she previously held high-level appointed positions at the California Public Utilities Commission, guiding development of policies in electric transportation, renewable energy, smart grid, energy storage, and long-term planning and procurement.

Spring conference to feature panel on the needs and costs for new transmission
Please join us for the NW Clean & Affordable Energy Conference, May 29-30 in Boise. A panel of experts will address the needs and costs of the Boardman to Hemingway and Gateway West transmission lines. These high-voltage transmission lines currently slated for construction in Idaho aim to improve reliability, handle a higher load and incorporate additional renewable energy sources. Opponents question whether the lines are needed and if the costs are justifiable. This panel will address the needs and opportunity costs associated with the construction of these two transmission lines.
NWEC spring conference to feature world-renown energy consultant Aimee Christensen
The CEO of Sun Valley, Idaho-based Christensen Global Strategies, Aimée Christensen has two decades’ experience in policy, law, investment and philanthropy with the U.S. Department of Energy, World Bank, Baker & McKenzie and others. She guided Google’s first climate and energy initiatives, negotiated the first bilateral climate change agreements and wrote the first university endowment investment policy on climate change (Stanford University, 1999).
NW Clean & Affordable Energy Conference draws largest-ever crowd; Coalition adds four new members
Attendees learned about influencing behavior to fulfill energy efficiency potential; discussed opportunities and challenges to cleanly replacing aging, dirty power sources, considered consumer protection and utility revenue concerns surrounding expanded solar and other distributed generation; and got up to speed on how changing the Columbia River Treaty could affect power generation and other river uses in the basin.
Friends new and old support the Coalition at Founding the Future Gala
The NW Energy Coalition’s Founding the Future Gala looked back on the Coalition’s 33-year history through the eyes of several founding members and forward through the eyes of more recent clean energy leaders. It was also the occasion for honoring Patton’s 20-year legacy as executive director and celebrating longtime policy director Hirsh, who will move up to executive director when Patton moves on in January.
