The Harmonious Grid: A new direction for the NW electric system

In ten years, the NW electric system will be a very different creature . . . we hope. In addition to reducing and ultimately removing fossil fuel resources, the grid will see another fundamental change — the integration of emerging customer-side resources that will enable utilities to manage and shape demand for electricity much as they currently manage and shape supply.
This change will help produce and cleaner, more efficient, more affordable, and more resilient energy system, but it will also involve significant technological and policy-related changes that will fundamentally alter electric system planning and the relationship between utilities and customers. This series of papers by the NW Energy Coalition will examine these changes and the actions utilities, energy services providers, policymakers, regulators, and communities and citizens can take in order to realize a range of economic, environmental, and social benefits that the coming Harmonious Grid can provide.
