One step closer to a coal-free Oregon
Another step toward finalizing the Boardman, Ore., plant’s transition off of coal was taken early this week. The Sierra Club and its co-plaintiffs (NW Energy Coalition was not a plaintiff) settled their Clean Air Act suit with plant owner Portland General Electric.
PGE – also a NW Energy Coalition member -agreed to a provide $2.5 million to fund habitat protection/environmental restoration projects, local clean energy projects and community air pollution reduction efforts. We congratulate PGE, the Sierra Club and other plaintiffs for reaching this agreement and leading the region to a coal-free future.
