Make a year-end donation to support the Coalition

By Beth Brooks

Greetings!

Our heartfelt wishes to you and yours for a healthy and peaceful holiday season. We are pleased to report that the NW Energy Coalition has had another highly productive and action-packed year.   Among our top programmatic successes in 2024 are the following:

–We’ve collaborated with our allies to educate and influence utility regulatory commissions, public utility governing bodies, and utilities to address affordability and decarbonization.

–We’ve continued our work with the Columbia & Snake River campaign, the states of Oregon and Washington, and lower Columbia Tribal nations to advance energy replacements in support of salmon recovery.

— We are continually advancing policy, codes and regulatory action on decarbonization, electrification, and electric system readiness.

— We’ve contributed to creating more integrated system planning that includes transmission, distribution and generation planning across electric and gas systems.

— We are helping build momentum for a single Western electricity market, independent governance, and securing additional transmission investments.

This year we have welcomed two new staff: Jill Wasberg as our Communications & Events Manager, and Derek Goldman as our Policy Advocate for Montana and Idaho. A special shout-out to our amazing interns: Soumya Keefe and Lyra Meyers. Click here for a full staff list and how to get in touch.

With your ongoing support, we continue to make significant strides forward in our policy and implementation work. A sincere thank you to all who have already donated.

Looking ahead to 2025 we will continue to lead efforts to advance clean, affordable, and equitable energy policies. With the challenges brought by the new federal Administration, regional and state action is more important than ever. We are working hard to support smarter power system planning in the face of growing electric loads, the need to restore salmon, and decarbonize our energy system. We will be centering customer resources, affordability, equity and reliability in all our advocacy and analysis.

–To reduce energy burden and improve resiliency, we will work to expand utility bill assistance programs, targeted energy efficiency, and community-based programs that deliver resilience.

–We will continue to work on integrated system planning, decarbonization, and electric system readiness. We’re working on planning to help government and utility groups meet decarbonization and salmon recovery goals, plan around the clean energy transition, and work on wildfire mitigation.

–We will engage in the upcoming legislative cycles in Washington, Oregon and Montana.

–We are continuing our work on regional power market & transmission development by educating policymakers, allies, and utilities on economic, salmon and environmental value and benefits of a single western market. We plan to keep supporting the Pathways Initiative in its second phase and the continuing efforts of WestTEC as they work towards a more efficient and equitable transmission grid.

Together, with your support, we can move forward towards an affordable and equitable clean energy futurePlease consider making a gift to the Coalition as part of your 2024 Year-End giving plans.

All the best,
All of us at the NW Energy Coalition
