The Value of Coalition
The NW Energy Coalition has just completed our Spring membership meetings and educational conference and I am inspired by the effective and collaborative work of Coalition members and allies in sharing best practices and helping communities and governments ensure that we have the most effective policies and programs to advance a clean, reliable and affordable energy system. The Trump Administration just released its proposed federal budget and coupled with its ongoing efforts to roll back advances in a clean, affordable, and equitable energy future is an affront to our work, and the work of many other organizations and communities across the country.
Reductions in staffing and funding at critical federal agencies such as the Bonneville Power Administration, Department of Energy, Health and Human Services, Department of Interior, and Environmental Protection Agency make it harder to maintain clean air, clean water, healthy and abundant species, and reliable and affordable energy services for communities in the Northwest and across the country. Similarly, rollbacks of environmental regulations and policies threaten public health and the environment and have a devastating impact on state and local governments delivering these services.
NWEC works to advance policies and programs that help support communities to have a carbon-free energy system that affordably and equitably meets the needs of people, preserves the region’s natural resources, and helps restore endangered salmon. We stand with all Coalition members, our allies in the non-profit sector, government, utilities, and businesses to continue this important work and push back on discriminatory efforts to limit programs and cut funding to those addressing climate change, energy justice, consumer protection, salmon recovery, and a more effective energy system for all people.
As an alliance of over 100 environmental, civic, and human service organizations, utilities, local government agencies, and clean energy and energy efficiency businesses in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia we understand the value of having diverse voices at the table, actively listening to find common ground and collaboratively developing solutions that are a win-win for all Northwest communities.
Please join us in solidarity by making sure your elected officials know you support:
- Investments and policies supporting clean, affordable and equitable energy technologies and programs
- Adequate staffing and resourcing of government agencies given their critical role in delivery of services, funding, research, and regulation
