SUMMARY:Register For the Northwest Transmission Summit
DESCRIPTION:Join the NW Energy Coalition \n12pm-5pm Thursday May 7 & 9am-3pm Friday May 8 \nBoise Centre – Boise\, Idaho \n850 W. Front Street (Directions & Parking) \nSpring 2026 Northwest Transmission Summit: building towards our prosperous future  \nOur region faces growing energy demands\, changing climate patterns\, and continued development of low-cost solar and wind power. We have a long history of interconnecting our region through a network of transmission lines to control costs\, increase reliability\, and integrate clean energy. As we reach the grid’s limits\, it is time to reinforce and expand our system to meet our future needs. Come together to gain a shared understanding of the urgency of the need\, identify key opportunities\, and address historical barriers to site\, pay for\, and build new transmission resources while protecting community values.  \nJoin us for a reception from 5pm-7pm following the main conference on Thursday May 7th at the Boise Centre. \nSee more details about the event and read more about our speakers here. \n  \n \nThanks to our Sponsors! \n\n \nIf the ticket price is a barrier for you to attend\, we have sponsorship\, scholarship\, and volunteer opportunities are available. Please contact elle@nwenergy.org for more info. \nMember Meeting\nNW Energy Coalition Members are encouraged to join us for the Spring NWEC Member Meeting on May 7 from 9-11am MT / 8-10 PT at The Nature Conservancy’s Boise office (a short walk from the Boise Centre)\, prior to the main event. There will be a hybrid option for the Member Meeting. \nFor questions contact Elle Gasperini\, our Events & Membership Manager at elle@nwenergy.org  \n\n  \n \nSummit Agenda:\nThursday May 7 (12pm-5pm) \nSession 1: The Grid We Share: History and Perspectives on Regional Transmission   \nThe Northwest shares a transmission grid\, which has provided reliable service for decades. However\, it is nearing its limits as our region continues to grow and respond to new technology\, evolving resources\, and changing weather. As we face the need to optimize and expand the grid\, we also must address a legacy of impacts to our communities\, Tribes\, and environment\, as well as consider who bears the cost. This session grounds the conference in a shared understanding of the history of our regional transmission grid\, the necessity of expanding the grid\, and the considerations that must be central to the discussions and process.  \nModerator: Stephanie Lenhart – Boise State University \nPanelists: \nJillian Hanson – The Nature Conservancy (TNC) \nBrant Johnson – Grid United \nDonald Williams – From the Light Consulting \nJamie Hearn – Front & Centered \nMike McArthur – Renewable Northwest \nSession 2: Opportunities to expand the transmission system   \nMany opportunities exist to expand the grid to meet future needs. Panelists will share about the utility and regional plans to expand our regional grid around three key strategies: optimizing the current grid\, increasing capacity along existing corridors\, and a small set of new projects that will reinforce the system and access the lowest cost resources available to meet our energy demands.   \nModerator: Shanna Brownstein – Grid Care \nPanelists: \nCasey Baker – GridLab \nHamody Hindi – Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) \nCurtis Westhoff – Idaho Power \nKyle Unruh – Renewable Northwest \nSession 3: Issues and Solutions Part 1: Community and Environmental Impacts & Siting Processes  \n Siting new transmission lines is where the rubber meets the road: balancing the need to expand our grid with impacts on communities whose lands and lives are impacted. The siting process is intended to identify and address these impacts while still resulting in new infrastructure builds. This session will review how the siting process works in each state\, have panelists share from various stakeholder perspectives\, and provide opportunity for the audience to share thoughts on how siting processes can continue to be improved.  \nModerator: Aaron Menenberg – Renewable Northwest \nPanelists: \nShannon Stewart – Invenergy \nJohn Robison – Idaho Conservation League  \nReuben Martinez – Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians \nJeff Hough – Bannock County Board of Commissioners \nFriday May 8 (9am-3pm) \nSession 1: Issues and Solutions Part 2: Regional Planning and Coordination \n Transmission is a regional infrastructure need; however\, it is largely planned and paid for at the state level in the West. As regional planning rises in importance\, stakeholders across the West are developing new tools and processes to increase coordination. Hear from a panel of speakers engaged in regional planning about evolving forums for regional collaboration and opportunities to engage.   \nModerator: George Lynch – Western Interstate Energy Board \nPanelists:  \nRich Glick – Gridworks \nCaitlin Liotiris – Energy Strategies \nDonald Williams – From the Light Consulting \nSession 2: Issues and Solutions Part 3: How Costs and Benefits are Determined and Allocated at the State Level  \nWho pays for\, and who benefits from\, our regional transmission lines? In the Northwest\, each state has similar\, but meaningfully different processes and standards for allocating costs and benefits to local utility customers. A moderated panel of utility commissioners will explore the differences between each state and help identify opportunities to increase coordination to ensure fair and accurate allocation of costs and benefits.  \nModerator: Megan Decker – Staircase Advisory \nPanelists: \nJohn Hammond – Idaho Public Utility Commission \nLes Perkins – Oregon Public Utility Commission \nBrian Rybarik – Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission \nSession 3: Issues and Solutions Part 4: Workforce and Construction  \nEven if the political and financing challenges to building transmission were addressed\, do we have access to the right people and materials required to “put steel in the ground?” This session will investigate the key supply chain and workforce development challenges that face the region\, and we’ll hear from speakers engaged in creative opportunities to address them. \nModerator: Kate French – BlueGreen Alliance \nPanelists: \nJake Pollack – Strategic Energy Innovation (SEI) \nErich Orth – Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) \nJason Hudson – IBEW 77 \nSession 4:  Next Steps to Achieve Our Prosperous Future  \n How can we move forward to build upon our shared transmission system\, meet our growing needs\, and address the real impacts on communities and the environment? In this concluding session\, we will summarize the information\, perspectives\, and potential solutions that came out of the conference sessions\, solicit additional audience ideas on how to move forward\, and identify opportunities for further engagement.   \nModerator: Ben Otto – NW Energy Coalition

SUMMARY:Oregon Clean Grid Collaborative Summit
DESCRIPTION:2026 Oregon Clean Grid Collaborative Summit\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Oregon Clean Grid Collaborative (OCGC) invites you to register early for the 2026 OCGC Summit\, taking place Monday May 18th\, from 9:00am to 1:30pm at the Willamette Heritage Center in Salem. \nOregon’s electrical grid is at a critical moment. Rapid load growth from electrification\, data centers\, and economic development is colliding with the state’s clean energy goals and an aging transmission system that is already at or nearing capacity. While Oregon has made progress towards meeting its clean energy targets and preparing for future energy demand\, much work remains. Decisions made over the next several years will shape whether the state can deliver reliable\, affordable\, clean energy to households and businesses—and capture the full economic and climate benefits of that transition. \nPanel and breakout session topics will include: \n\nCross-sector perspectives on the impacts and tradeoffs shaping grid decisions\nInsights on regional momentum and policies advancing in other states\nA discussion of Oregon’s current actions\, implementation challenges\, and next steps\nAn overview of how transmission and grid infrastructure support clean energy\, affordability\, reliability\, and economic development\n\nFounded in 2023\, OCGC is a coalition of environmental justice\, ratepayer\, conservation\, labor\, and clean energy advocates who are committed to ensuring that Oregon transitions quickly\, efficiently\, and equitably to clean energy. Specifically\, OCGC seeks to ensure that grid planning\, governance\, markets\, and investments are aligned to maximize the power of the grid and prioritize reliability; accelerate grid decarbonization; equitably\, affordably\, and reliably deliver clean energy resources to end users; support meaningful economic development that prioritizes family-wage job creation in Oregon; and minimize impacts to environmental and cultural resources.

SUMMARY:Data Centers 101: Climate and Environmental Justice
DESCRIPTION:      \nJoin Front & Centered online on August 19 for this introductory event for “Shifting Power on Data Centers”—the first session of our Energy Justice webinar series\, hosted in partnership with the NW Energy Coalition (NWEC)! \nWe’re hearing a lot about data centers and their growing impacts\, but the narrative does not focus on how hyperscale data centers are also a climate and environmental justice concern\, and how they impact several areas of our lives\, including our health\, access to energy\, and our air\, water\, soil\, and more. \nOur aim in putting together this series in collaboration with NWEC is to increase public awareness and knowledge about the impacts we are seeing from hyperscale data centers on communities of color\, Indigenous peoples\, and low-income Washingtonians: folks who have historically been left out of decision-making processes\, despite experiencing the impacts of unjust practices and policies first and worst.  \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:The Human Side of Heat Pumps: Behavioral Insights for Customers and Contractors
DESCRIPTION:‘Buildings Don’t Decarbonize Themselves\, People Do’ is a Clean Energy Transition Institute webinar series highlighting how the social and behavioral sciences are essential to achieving building decarbonization goals. The second webinar in the series will focus on heat pumps\, given that they are a keystone technology that enables building decarbonization. The session will provide two parallel perspectives on the heat pump journey–that of a customer and a contractor. Four core questions will be answered from both perspectives based on social and behavioral science research informed by the technical specificities of heat pumps. The questions include: 1) What are heat pumps and why should I care?; 2) Will they work in my/this house?; 3) What will it cost/how much should I charge?; and 4) How do I get one? CETI Research Director Dr. Stacia Dreyer will moderate the discussion with presentations from Dr. Sarah Outcault (Market Transformation Research Director at the UC Davis Energy and Efficiency Institute and Western Cooling Efficiency Center) and Dr. Jen Loomis (Market Research & Evaluation Senior Manager at Resource Innovations).
